If you are ready to get in tune with your intrepid side and have some extra time to venture outside of Amsterdam’s cultural attractions, then Bike Sherpa bicycle tours is a wonderful way to explore the beautifully diverse areas of the Netherlands. But the extra fun requires another 5 nights in the country. So planning ahead is required.
While this company offers various tours, there are typically 2 or 3 that begin and end in Amsterdam. For example the "Tulip Tour" allows you to experience Holland by cruise and cycle. This tour is a bit light on true cycling, but will introduce travelers to many parts of Holland. The Bike and Boat Belgium and Holland is another fully guided bike and boat tour from Bruges to Amsterdam. This tour begins in Bruges and ends in Amsterdam. Cycling is done each day.
Nitty Gritty: Tour season is April – September. Prices range from $700 - $1200 for 5 nights and vary by room size and type of "ship." There is a €15 booking fee for each reservation/group. This cost typically includes daily breakfast buffest and three-course dinners, and packed picnic lunches for the bike tours. Guests can bring their own bikes, but there are rental option which cost extra. Rentals are hybrid touring and trekking bikes ($85). E-bikes are also available, however they must be ordered at least 2 weeks before the trip departs and cost $225. Guests must bring their own helmet as well. In the Netherlands, cyclists are not obligated by law to wear a helmet.
