Bikram Yoga West

260 Kilburn Lane
London W10 4BA
Area: Mayfair/Hyde Park

There are plenty of options to continue your yoga practice while in London, and this is one of them. Operated by Bikram Yoga London, the "west" studio offers up the steamy yoga we've come to know and love with a dash of British humor and flair. The instructors are challenging without taking themselves too seriously and believe in making class fun. The studio is housed in an old brick warehouse, which gives it a bit of character inside and out. Exposed brick walls, open ductwork and track lighting maintain the urban "warehouse" vibe, but bold accent walls, modern furnishings and local artwork in the lobby really tie the space together. The studio space has neutral-colored carpeting which helps to lighten the room and high windows that allow plenty of natural light in while protecting students from the distractions of the street traffic.

DIRECTIONS/DETAILS While we categorize the studio as Hyde Park, it is equidistant (at about 3.5 miles) from our recommended hotels in Mid City, Regent's Park and Hyde Park. It's a 5-minute walk from the Queens Park tube station on Bakerloo Line. From the station, turn right onto Kilburn. Buses 6, 316 and N6 also drop off near Queens Park. Locker rooms feature several showers and lockers for storing your personal items, though you may need to bring your own lock as they do not rent them here. A single class is 13 pounds, towel rentals are 1 pound and water is also available for 1 pound.

Call the studio or check the website for more detailed class information, otherwise classes are offered Monday/Wednesday 6:45a; 10a; 12p; 5p; 7p; 8:45p. Tuesday/Thursday 8a; 10a; 4p; 6p; 8p. Friday 6:45a; 10a; 12p; 5p; 7p. Weekends 10a; 12p; 3p; 5p.

ABOUT BIKRAM YOGA Bikram Yoga welcomes beginners. This 90 minute class consists of 26 beginning postures and is conducted in a hot room (approx. 110 degrees) with, hopefully, high humidity. But don't be fooled into thinking beginning means easy - it doesn't! Iron men and couch potatoes, alike, have found themselves floored in "dead man's pose" just minutes into this challenging workout. You don't have to be strong or flexible or in excellent shape to do this yoga - you simply have to be willing. What we also really like about Bikram's is that every studio teaches the same sequence of postures so you always know you're going to get a full-body workout, a great benefit for travelers. ** Note they don't call it "sweaty stinky yoga" without reason. Often smaller studios will have a very distinct fragrance. Don't fret and just do the yoga.
