The Cumberland boasts one of the best hotel locations in London. Across from the northeast corner of Hyde Park, a block away from the Marble Arch Tube stop and within steps of Oxford Street shopping and entertainment, myriad options are literally just beyond the front door. The 1019-room mega-property now has the character and style to attract the likes of Victoria Beckham and other famous socialites. Cumberland sought to design "something a bit different than home."
Guest quarters are tiny, but the design and floorplans maximizes the space. All comers will appreciate Egyptian cotton linens, premium mattresses, plasma televisions and upscale accoutrements such as plush bathrobes and invigorating power showers. Consider upgrading to the Deluxe level rooms that boast more space and better views.
Cumberland's ground floor gym is a delightfully appealing space with light-toned hardwood floors, bright lighting, and plasma televisions hanging from the white and blue walls. The Precor cardio and weight machinery is first rate, but bike riders are left out in the London winter cold as neither a recumbent nor upright pedal-pusher are in the house, very unusual. Dumbbells weighing up to 20kgs (about 45 lbs.) are also supplied.
Runners, don't forget about the fabulous running/walking paths in Hyde Park.
Swimmers will have to find a venue elsewhere as Cumberland does not sport a lap pool. The nearest lapper is likely at Virgin Active - Mayfair.
