Gold Marriott Grand Bohemian

325 S. Orange Avenue
Orlando, FL 32801
407-313-9000websitePrice: Expensive
Area: Downtown

This upscale Euro-style hotel emphasizes culture and the arts with its stunning architecture, striking art collection and classical and contemporary music offerings. Creative and edgy, we thought we were back in South Beach. The Grand Bohemian is just that, non-conformist in its style. However, the workout room is also off-beat, way off.

All 250 guest rooms are comfortably modern with red and purple color schemes, velvet drapes and cushions, quilted headboards and pillowtop beds. Techies must pay a surcharge for high-speed internet access, but it is available in all rooms. And late night munchies will be appeased by this Starwood property's 24 hour in-room dining.

After oohing and ahhing over the common areas and rooms, we anticipated an equally impressive fitness center. While the equipment is new, especially the four 9100 series Life Fitness cardio units, the machines are crammed into a space smaller than a hotel room. A cardio or weight quickie is possible here, but those longing for more should go elsewhere.

If you want a guaranteed "A" rated health club, pull out the car keys and drive to the YMCA. The trip will take about 5-10 minutes, and your first visit is free--$12/day thereafter. (Lap swimmers should seek the Y or Lake Highland Prep Academy.)
