This is a Philadelphia gem with over 215 miles of recreation trails, six golf courses, disc golf, and numerous athletic fields. Other active possibilities include: horseback riding lessons, bike and skate rentals, rowing on the Schuylkill River, tennis and more.
In terms of the trails, there are a variety of surfaces from paved to off-road. The 25-mile Schuylkill River Trail (paved) runs from downtown Philly to Oaks in Montgomery County. For more info on this trail check out:http://www.schuylkillrivertrail.com/
The trail attracts cyclists, joggers, walkers and rollerbladers.
Another very popular bike/run route is Forbidden Drive. You can start at the parking area on Bells Mills Road. It's a very easy gravel path that offers a number of sights along the way. For off roaders there are a number of technical trails that weave in and out of the main path.
