We have yet to tour a boring and character-lacking Sofitel. Philadelphia's version fits the Sofitel mold of modern and stylish accommodations and appealing amenities. Housed in a renovated building on the former Philadelphia Stock Exchange site, Sofitel Philly is located in the business center's heart and convenient to all downtown offices and attractions.
306 rooms fill the hotel, and beds are very comfortable with down duvets and high-thread count sheets. Tall travelers will appreciate the separate showers and baths. Interior decorators may take notes on the color and furnishing combinations--far from a cookie-cutter hotel room (see photos). Room service is available 5am to 1am during the week and till 3am on weekends. Wireless internet can be accessed for $13.95/24 hours.
Of course, Sofitel would not make our recommended list without an impressive hotel gym. Stepping inside, before noticing the top quality Life Fitness equipment, we admired the fitness center's colorful atmosphere: blue rubberized flooring, hanging mirrors and peach walls. The room is somewhat dark making reading while sweating on the cardio equipment a little challenging, but all in all this facility should satisfy most athletic-minded travelers. Plenty of strength equipment provides muscle-pumpers with an assortment of options too.
Swimmers are left out of the fitness fun. Without a pool in the hotel, our fish-like friends will have to look elsewhere for a dip. Check our Work Out section for options. Runners should consider our recommended outdoor route through Fairmount Park.
