Vedge (Washington Square West)

1221 Locust St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107
Area: Philadelphia, PA

It's all about the vegetable here, and there is no meat envy. The uber chef, classically trained, creates a gourmet menu celebrating everything the garden has to offer. For those visiting Philly, consider this pricey spot for a unique experience. Locals and visitors hail it as one of the city's best and many claim it's one of the country's best vegan restaurants.

Vedge is located in the historic Tiger building on Locust Street. It's elegant inside with high ceilings, a long bar, vintage light fixtures, warm woods, a glowing chandelier in the main dining area, stained glass on the windows, a cozy fireplace, and original hardwood flooring. Classic. Not trendy.

The dinner menu is globally inspired and ever changing. Expect 12 to 14 "plates" and 3-4 shareable appetizers. Highlights from a recent menu include charred shishitos; peel n' eat lupini beans, wood grilled sweet potato pate with grain mustard and jerk cashews; roasted rutabega salad with grilled trumpet mushrooms, charred onion and pistachio; portabella carpaccio, garbanzo tonatto with fennel mustard and crispy capers; spicy grilled tofu, gochujang, edamame with smoked miso; roasted maitake mushrooms, celery root fritter, with smoked leek remoulade and grilled seitan, swiss chard with smoked tahini and pickled turnips. You get the idea. It's gourmet.

Open for dinner Mon-Saturday beginning at 5p. Weekday happy hour 5p-7p. Closed Sundays.

Vegan friendly. NO meat.
