This community center is an older facility that does a fairly good job updating equipment and keeping members happy. Newer Precor ellipticals and Life Fitness bikes are sprinkled among older cardio pieces. The strength options are satisfying, especially the approximate 21 Cybex "stacked" machines.
The lap pool area is more like a high-ceiling warehouse or garage than a traditional swim area. A concrete deck surrounds 6 lanes of 25-yard swimming. All the toys you'll need are available and your lapping will be guided by both bottom stripes and floating lane lines. The pool is somewhat shallow, the concrete bottom and side-walls could use some freshening up, and the water looked to be somewhat over-chlorinated. We wouldn't want this to be our home pool, but it will suffice for a swim or two.
Guests of The Durham work out for free. It's $10/day to work out at the YMCA.
