While there's nothing too special about this 9-floor Marriott, it's super convenient if you have business at the Durham Convention Center since it's attached via walkway. All 187 rooms have been renovated with new televisions, free WiFi, mini fridges and coffeemakers, and pleasingĀ aesthetics. We wish same could be said for the fitness center. It needs a facelift.
For your sweat, you'll likely skipĀ Marriott's small onsite exercise room. There's treadmills, cycles andĀ ellipticals, but not a dumbbell in sight. Instead, plop down $10 for a pass from the front desk to sweat at the YMCA across the street. The Y is an older facility, but management is trying its best to update and replace equipment with a limited budget. If you have wheels, take the 10-minute drive to Levin JCC for a full-service health club experience. They've got all the equipment you need, plus an outdoor lap pool. $10/day for a maximum of three days.
Bottom line: we would recommend staying here only if you want or need to locate your "home base" in downtown Durham or near the Civic Center. (It's 7 miles from the Research Triangle and about 2 miles from Duke University).
