This Embassy Suites is a wonderful choice for runners. While its tiny in-house gym only manages a few cardio machines and a limited dumbbell set, the property is situated near Raleigh/Durham's best running trails. One of Umstead Park's entrances (Reedy Creek) is less than a half-mile away and easily reached on foot. Just head out the hotel's front door to Harrison Ave., turn left, cross the bridge over I-40 (watch for traffic), and turn left on the first road after entering the park.
Non-running exercisers should look beyond Embassy's on-site gym because within a half-mile of the hotel is one of the most upscale health clubs in the area. For $10/day, O2 Fitness has everything you'll need, except a lap pool. Swimmers should head to Campus Hills or Pullen.
The hotel itself is typical Embassy: atrium style with guest room doors surrounding the building's core; rooms with separate sleeping and living areas; complimentary full-size breakfasts and evening snacks; and high-speed internet access. During the warmer months, tennis and basketball courts are available in the hotel's "backyard." If you need to stay in/near the Research Triangle and enjoy on the road runs, this is definitely your spot.
