Located inside Fairmont Park in the heart of the Sugarhouse district, the 36,500 square foot Fairmont Aquatic Center is a good choice for those who like to lap swim for their workout. Well lit with high ceilings and cheery orange walls, the Center’s pool is indoors, is heated to 82 degrees, and has eight, 25 yard lanes separated from the larger, leisure pool. The Center guarantees that at least one lane will be open for use during the lap times listed, but if you want to know if there is available space in the lanes for sure, call the Center’s number.
The recreational pool offers a current channel, waterworks, and a waterslide that cater to a younger crowd. The pool gets a bit busy and noisy around 4pm, when the schools are out, so plan accordingly.
In terms of cardio, the Center offers cycling bikes, which you have to sign up for a class to use, so if you’re planning on lifting weights and pump serious iron, we recommend seeking out a fitness center. But there are other classes too and the charge is $4 per every session. Options include Aqua Zumba (Tu/Thu 9a-10a), Float Board, Basic Land Yoga (M-T 9a-10a, W-Th 8a-9a, F- SAT 10:30a-11:30a), and Pop Pilates on Sat 10a-10:30a.
The Center is equipped with are locker rooms with storage space and showers, and a snack bar is located inside the Center if you forgot a water bottle or snack.
