If you're like us, you are always on the hunt for unique accommodations when away from home. Standard business hotels are functional, but boring. Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City is one of those properties that just makes us smile!
From the street, this 14-story edifice resembles yet another historic, Victorian-esque hotel. But once inside, travelers quickly realize that looks can be deceiving. This is no stodgy, cookie-cutter accommodation. Gone are the traditional décor and classic furnishings of so many hotels, replaced by vibrant colors, whimsical décor, and charming splashes of character. Unique hotel services such as complimentary chair massages and glasses of wine during evening social hours, a pet friendly policy welcoming dogs/cats of all sizes (yes, even your Great Dane can check-in), and "goldfish rental" for those traveling without a four-legged friend but desiring a roommate are Monaco trademarks. Practical amenities are on-site as well. We especially appreciate the WiFi internet access throughout the hotel and in-room yoga mats.
All 225 rooms will keep you entertained with vertically striped wallpaper, trendy brown carpeting with orange stars, and white bedding (Frette linens) accented with red-patterned throws. "Tall rooms" are even available for those athletic-minded travelers exceeding 6 feet. These super-sized quarters were custom designed with 9-foot King beds and heightened showerheads. Add to the mix 24-hour room service and the always available Yoga channel, and you can see that Monaco sits squarely outside the proverbial "box."
In addition to the in-room Yoga channel exercise option, Monaco provides sweat-minded individuals with two additional possibilities. There's the on-premise diminutive gym with its busy floor, mirrors, and half dozen cardio machines, sufficient for some, but many may want more (especially AMT-ers desiring muscle pumping). A 10-minute walk to Planet Fitness will be required (and a $20/day sweat payment). If the weather is nice, Monaco even rents bicycles for free for a pedal-view of Salt Lake City.
Also, don't forget about our outdoor run routes and the nearby 400-meter track.
Swimmers can drive 5-minutes to the JCC for both indoor and outdoor lap pools, or consider the Gym at City Creek.
