Located about 15 minutes from downtown and accessible by the public bus system, Grouse Mountain is a worthy athletic destination for all sorts of activities year-round. The downside is that admission to the mountain isn't cheap and will run you about $30. The mountain rises 3,641 feet and the view from the top is fabulous. Take the gondola, or, in the summer, hike it. A bar, several restaurants and theatre await. Summer: For *hiking* enthusiasts, the trail is called the Grouse Grind and it's a challenging 1.8 mile (2.9 km) near vertical march. The fastest completion time by a male is 26:26, female: 32:54. The elevation gain is 2,800 feet (853 meters). DIRECTIONS: Directions: Follow Georgia Street through Stanley Park and across the Lion's Gate Bridge. Take the North Vancouver exit to Marine Drive, then left up Capilano Road for 5 km (3.1 miles). Or, from the Ironworkers' Memorial Second Narrows Bridge, follow Highway #1 westbound to Capilano Road Exit North.
